ONE WRONG TURN

ONE WRONG TURN

Yesterday we was driving down the freeway and we were unsure on which exit was the one we wanted so we went ahead and exited right. Upon choosing that exit we realize that we chose the wrong exit and it took us all out of the way from our original destination causing to do more driving than required.

IMG_6833.JPG

The misturn made me think of how quick a person life can change from making one choice. Often wrong choices can stem from indecisiveness. Just as we were unsure to pick the correct exit, certain people are unsure of what path to choose in life. If we were sure and trusted our gut instinct we would've never have to go out the way to reach our original destination.

IMG_6834.PNG

So the next time you have time to ponder correct life decisions, ensure that you are decisive in what you want and you too can avoid an unwanted wrong turn.

THE SLEEPER EFFECT How Not Being Projected as The Best Doesn't Stop You From Being The Best

THE SLEEPER EFFECT

How Not Being Projected as The Best Doesn't Stop You From Being The Best

IMG_6067.JPG
IMG_6068.JPG

Today, as I was listening to the UNDISPUTED podcast w/ Skip & Shannon, Skip brought up a point on how NFL teams don't know anything when it comes to picking quarterbacks. He explained how Tom Brady (best QB in the league) was drafted in the 6th round and another great quarterback Russell Wilson, was drafted 3rd. Even Kurt Warner who was undrafted, became a Super Bowl champion and 4x pro bowler.

IMG_6066.JPG

The problem ambitious people face is no one really knows that your ambitious efforts is going to pay off. They can see you working but no one actually thinks about you achieving maximum level and breaking all expectations. If they did the leachers and supporters would show up much sooner! Much like if the NFL knew these late draft picks would become franchise players, they would've been selected much quicker, guaranteed !

IMG_6069.JPG

The key lesson to take away from these underestimated greats , is to show up and take advantage when the opportunity presents itself. When Tony Romo became injured in Dallas, Dak Prescott had his chance to fill in since then he led the Cowboys to the playoffs and his predecessor even retired. No analysts can properly predict your trajectory because the unrestricted belief that you have in yourself is yours alone! Hone your skills and sharpen your craft then watch the people in life regret not choosing you earlier !

LET THE WATER RUN

LET THE WATER RUN

IMG_5538.JPG

Yesterday as I was preparing a bath something suddenly hit me. The simplest thing like taking a bath has taught me two things when it comes to accomplishing my goals.

  • BALANCE THE ATTACK

While running bath water you want to get the tub to the perfect temperature, not too hot or not too cold. To do that you play with both the hot and cold knobs until the perfect stream is achieved. Adjacent to our real life we can't ever lean too far to the extreme of a plan of attack. Sometimes we may need help sometimes we may have to do things solo but all the time we need balance.

IMG_5541.JPG
  •  GIVE IT TIME

Unless your water pressure is on kamehameha mode, water isn't going to burst out at an extreme rate to fill your tub up in seconds. Even if you turn the knobs to its max you still have to give it proper time to fill up. Much like no matter how hard we "grind" or "hustle" if it isn't time, it isn't time and we can only focus on our due diligence not the reward that comes from it.

IMG_5542.JPG

All in all when the bath is complete it serves for the perfect relief , this is the feeling you're going to feel when you let life take its course while focusing on the journey and not the destination.

WE ARE FAMILY: CULTIVATING SUCCESS WHILE MOVING AS A TIGHT UNIT

WE ARE FAMILY: Cultivating Success While Moving as a Tight Unit

After watching MikeWillMadeIt's interview with The Breakfast Club, I just found out Rae Sremmurd are actually brothers (all this time and I never knew) and it made me think of another hip hop act (MIGOS) and I realized what made these two acts work and stay on top without the public inner drama.

IMG_4987.JPG

I. TRUST

It's hard to accomplish anything in a group atmosphere without trust but I think MIGOS were the most effective in displaying what real trust is. During one of Offset's stints in jail, Quavo and Takeoff sat aside Offset's portion for each show they would do and when he came home they gave him everything he was owed. In an industry where money is always being manipulated it shows that the MIGOS wouldn't let such a frivolous thing come between them and that allows them to consistently grind without the hassle of worrying about what's going with the money.

IMG_4988.JPG

II. CHEMISTRY

Both RAE SREMMURD and MIGOS show extreme chemistry when they rap together. The best examples of their chemistry doesn't necessarily come from their studio tracks but it's best shown in their freestyles. In a Rae Sremmurd freestyle you watch as both Slim Jimmi and Swae Lee are able to feed off each other without cutting each other off all the time and they freestyle for a long time without much stumbling. As for the MIGOS their asset of chemistry lies in their Ad-libs which is also best described in their freestyles. When one raps the two inserts perfectly timed ad Libs, that can only be achieved by a group that raps with each other all the time. They mesh so easily it's always an exciting thing to watch them freestyle.

III. POSITIONS

A Picture I Drew of Rae Sremmurd, That Swae Lee Posted go check it out  https://instagram.com/p/BH3k9AtDeFt/

A Picture I Drew of Rae Sremmurd, That Swae Lee Posted go check it out  https://instagram.com/p/BH3k9AtDeFt/

Perhaps the most important trait is each member know their position and plays it well. As MikeWill said "Jimmi is the greatest entertainer, Swae Lee is the greatest songwriter". Jimmi makes Rae Sremmurd exciting while Swae Lee brings the melodic tones and lyrics that makes their songs unforgettable. If you look at the MIGOS, they know when to let the other shine and never take offense if one member receives more attention than the other because at the end of the day one person can't be MIGOS it takes all three. Whenever MIGOS perform bad and boujee, Takeoff performs it with them with just as much excitement as if he's on the song. Takeoff have his moments where he shine and Offset and Quavo can do multiple features without any known resentment or backlash. This can only happen when a person knows themselves and everyone has a mutual respect that doesn't stop a person from shining.

FullSizeRender.jpg

Overall the biggest contribution to these successful acts is the fact that their actually Family! If you too want to reap success as a cohesive unit, moving like a family is required because real family go to extreme lengths for each other that associate or even friends would never dare go to.

THE "ME" IN TEAM

THE "ME" IN TEAM

This week I've watched documentaries on two of the greatest players to ever touch a basketball, Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.

These two as we all know possessed many qualities that made them as great as they were but what isn't discussed is the obstacles that were self-induced and if it weren't overcame we may have never got the Kobe and MJ that we see today.

IMG_4644.JPG

I. THE "PERFECT" IMAGE.

IMG_4645.JPG

Michael Jordan once stated that He's "More Image Conscious then I would like to admit". It was even rumors that if you didn't act in a way that complied with Michael's public image he would heavily chastise you for it. Kobe not only took a lot of his game from Michael but he also took the way Michael carried himself with the media. They both went out of their way to appear as role models and upstanding citizens without any blemishes. However both were exposed that despite they're charisma and charm they were still human beings that made mistakes. For Michael it was his extreme gambling habit that even lead to a league investigation and some people are audacious enough to blame MJ's habit to be the cause of his father's death. As for Kobe, his act of adultery lead to rape allegations and jeopardized his entire career & life.

IMG_4648.JPG

II. "LET ME BE GREAT"

Jordan trusts John Paxson with big time shot

Jordan trusts John Paxson with big time shot

As we all know no players that played with Kobe or Michael can say they outworked them. Only thing on their mind was to be better than they were yesterday and that was only achieved through practice, practice, & more practice. However as they would soon find out solo play could only get them so far. Michael used to take on 2,3,4 defenders at a time instead of passing it to a teammate. Kobe was so much about his personal performance his own teammates wouldn't even cheer for him after he made a spectacular move. Both came to the realization without the trust in their teammates the furthest they can go is just being known as a "great player" but they both wanted more, they wanted to be "CHAMPIONS".

IMG_4650.JPG

Often times we do not realize that we can be our own barrier to the success we want. Certain things in life is just meant to be achieved with the help of others. Also our lives aren't meant to be lived perfect it's meant to understand that we're not perfect and that's okay. If these two never realized these self-induced burdens the legacy of these GOATs would be greatly tarnished. It's time to do a self check and see what's holding you back and once you find out nothing can stop you from becoming a GOAT!

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GO OUTSIDE

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GO OUTSIDE

IMG_4356.JPG

In life we always try to get to the next point of our destination as quickly as possible. We become anxious and the pressure to get from who you are to where you want to be builds up daily. Waiting for the weather to break can be analogous to waiting for your literal break in life.

IMG_4355.JPG

After daylight savings time, we get a longer glimpse of the sun and every time we look out the window we immediately want to go enjoy the warmth. Only to find out there is no warmth and winter(even though it's spring) is still continuing it's regular routine. It's much like seeing your opportunity but jumping the gun too early. You know it isn't the time to strike but you get so engulfed with wanting to enjoy the "warmth" you run outside only to find that it's still freezing.

The solution? As simple and cliche it may sounds, the passage of time is the only answer to this dilemma. We literally know it can't be like this forever just like your current situation can't stay how it is. Even if it's in the slightest way a change always occur. We deal with the cold by "bundling up" and dressing warm we can do the same in our current life by embracing our current situation because it is only by acceptance that we can peacefully see our way through the other side.

LAVAR BALL: The Father You Never Knew You Needed

LAVAR BALL: The Father You Never Knew You Needed

FullSizeRender.jpg

The center of media attention right now is none other than father of UCLA basketball superstar and two high school stars , LaVar Ball. Criticized for saying his son (Lonzo Ball) is better than Steph Curry, LaVar have the whole world speculating is he serious or is he seeking media attention?

UNIVERSITY BALL by Jaevonn Harris, https://instagram.com/p/BRow_AEBaLV/

UNIVERSITY BALL by Jaevonn Harris, https://instagram.com/p/BRow_AEBaLV/

Here are two takeaways that shows LaVar isn't out of his mind and he's only being a good father.

1. HE PUTS WORK ETHIC FIRST

When LaVar is constantly asked by sports media journalists like Chris Broussard or Shannon Sharp what makes him think Lonzo is better than Steph Curry, he always responds with "He knows how hard his boys work". He even mentions how he would have them compete against each other to see who can make 50 shots in the yard first and he would have them compete against much older players to propel their growth even further. This shows that LaVar doesn't believe in being "all talk" it is clear his confidence stems from the effort he see his sons put on the court each and every day.

IMG_3885.JPG
2. HE BELIEVES IN HIS BRAND

"It's 3 B's on my hat and it's gon' cost you at least one of em" is the response LaVar gave when talking about wanting a billion dollar shoe deal for his sons. He explained that he doesn't want his brand to be owned like Lebron's king logo or Kobe's Mamba Symbol, he want his brand to co-exist with the biggest brands like NIKE, ADIDAS,etc. He said if those athletes ever decided to leave they wouldn't be able to take their brand that they've built with them and he refuse to sacrifice something he built for a check. The amount of belief you have in your brand can dictate how much the public have belief in your brand. If you think your brand is worth a billion dollars then baby it's worth a billion dollars, it isn't worth it until its proven otherwise.

IMG_3883.JPG

What LaVar wants for his sons is bigger than money, its LEGACY. The way he speaks on his boys even if they can't live up to the expectations should be respected by EVERYONE simply because of the lack of fathers that are even in their children's life. At the end of the day we're discussing basketball and basketball is simply entertainment. Say what you will about LaVar Ball but I bet you're going to say him and his family is as good as entertainment gets.

CAN YOU LEND AN EAR? A Lesson on Asking for Help

CAN YOU LEND AN EAR?

A Lesson on Asking for Help

This past week I was staying at a hotel and I didn't have any headphones, I'm an avid music listener so I can only go so long without them. After several days of not having any I finally had the thought of "maybe I should ask the front desk for some" so indeed I asked was there any place I could purchase headphones from within the hotel and Lord behold they gave me a free pair and I didn't even have to spend any money!

IMG_3809.JPG

So the take away from this story is two key lessons: 1. Always be prepared to help yourself 2. When in doubt just ask.

  1. Always Be Prepared to Help Yourself.

Before I received a free pair of headphones , I already mentally prepared myself to pay for the headphones. If you're always ready to pay the price for what you want, you won't be shocked when it's time to pay the tab.

          2. When in Doubt Just Ask

The entire week of my stay I wanted headphones because mine broke the day I was traveling to the hotel. If I asked sooner instead of contemplating when I was going to have time to purchase headphones and other nonsense, I would've been had headphones. All it took was my inquiry.

IMG_3810.JPG

There you have it , it seems we tend to complicate the most simple things when maybe just a simple request for assistance can be the remedy we looked for all along.

TRAITS YOU SHOULD EMBODY THAT THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO EMBODY

TRAITS YOU SHOULD EMBODY THAT THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO EMBODY

All of us on the road to success each walk a unique path but there is something that each of us encounter along the way: people telling us what we should/shouldn't do and who we should/shouldn't be. Here are three traits that people try to label those who are brave enough to display bold ambition.

IMG_3206.PNG

ARROGANCE

In reality, it takes a lot of confidence to make the bold move of pursuing a purpose. When average people see you take on a new attitude of self-belief they re-brand it as "arrogance". There's nothing arrogant about wanting to be your best or seeing your vision come into fruition. All the greats get branded as arrogant such as; Michael Jordan, JAY Z, Tom Brady etc, but notice no one is calling a 3rd string quarterback for the Browns arrogant that's because he doesn't matter! Only those who impact can truly be felt will be called arrogant because their confidence is perceived as threatening.

IMG_3207.JPG
IMG_3208.JPG
IMG_3209.JPG

DELUSIONAL

Phil Knight's BLUE RIBBON SPORTS, an ode to his track days at OREGON

Phil Knight's BLUE RIBBON SPORTS, an ode to his track days at OREGON

People who haven't took risks are the ones who possess the most limited mindset, they only can see as far as their natural eye. The state of delusion is something everyone possessed if they actually made a difference in the world. Back when Phil Knight first entered the sneaker market, he convinced Japan sneaker brand Onitsuka Tigerthat his company could sell their shoes in the United States. His company didn't even exist, he even made up the name on the spot! That's definitely "delusional" and out of your mind but any normal person with a limited scope couldn't have been that quick on their toes and without that delusion we wouldn't have the NIKE that we have today.

IMG_3211.JPG

SELFISH

Even I have been called this numerous times as of late. If you're a person with ambition you will be called this too at one point or another but only because it's true! Selfishness has negative connotations but it's only when you put yourself first that you can go all in on your efforts! You could've called Lebron James selfish back when he first decided to join the Miami Heat. He had a goal to be a champion and while he could've been "loyal" to his home team he did what was best for his goal. He eventually went back and won a championship for Cleveland but again him winning a 'ship for Cleveland was HIS goal! People may try to sway you and guilt trip you but if you don't do what's best for you how could you possibly ever help the people that need you to the best of your ability?

IMG_3212.JPG
IMG_3213.JPG

So that's it, in a world filled with many positives and negatives you can always expect the positive to be spun towards the negative. However YOU always control the narrative and whatever is said about you, you can always control how to REACT to it.

A FUTURE YOU CAN'T RUSH

A FUTURE YOU CAN'T RUSH

FullSizeRender.jpg

Another week another Future album it seems but no complaints here! Future stated in a recent interview w/ Zane Lowe that his latest album HNDRXX, is the album that he always wanted to make. In 2014, FUTURE released his sophomore project "HONEST" to mixed/negative reviews. Since his entry into mainstream stardom, fans criticized Future for going commercial/pop and assumed that he forgotten his roots. Also, add into the mix his past relationship with r&b singer Ciara, fans thought Future was too high off life(or maybe codeine) to give the fans music that they wanted.

Following a split with Ciara and a brief musical hiatus Future alongside with the superstar-to-be Metro Boomin dropped what most people consider the comeback of the century which was his "MONSTER" mixtape. FUTURE didn't stop there as he released the mixtapes "Beast Mode" , "56 NIGHTS" and the classic album "DS2". This run even placed him alongside Toronto superstar DRAKE for the collaborative mixtape "WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE" featuring the monstrous hit "JUMPMAN" and the highest grossing hip hop tour of all time "SUMMER SIXTEEN TOUR".

FullSizeRender.jpg
IMG_2805.JPG

To get to a point of damn near a 100% creative freedom like FUTURE is at doesn't come easy. Most people would have faltered after a broken public relationship and a barrage of criticism from fans. A lesson for those in every walk of life, the point of life you aim to be doesn't arrive overnight and it often features more turmoil than joy along the way. The only way to ensure victory is to never stop playing the game and if you play long enough you'll be the one making the rules!

SETTING ASIDE DIFFERENCES

SETTING ASIDE DIFFERENCES

IMG_2518.JPG

Last night, the unthinkable happened during the 2017 NBA ALL STAR GAME. Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant actually cooperated with each other for one of the night's most memorable highlights. For those who are unaware of the significance, Kevin and Russell struck bad blood once Kevin decided to join the Golden Stare Warriors. A team Russell and KD almost defeated TOGETHER in the Western Conference Finals last year. Russell chose to resign with OKC and ever since then it's been a heated rivalry between the two NBA superstars.

IMG_2520.GIF

IMG_2521.JPG

Comparing their situation to our day-to-day experiences, there will always come a time where you will have to work with an enemy or former associate of some sorts in order to get the job done. Russell and KD are recognized as two of the NBA's best players and they had to come together for a Win for the sake of their conference. You may have to align with foes for the sake of the community, a project, or even your employment.

FullSizeRender.jpg

When found in this seemingly compromising situation just remember that the alliance is temporary and it's never as bad as it may seems.

LIFE IS OPEN WORLD GAMEPLAY

LIFE IS OPEN WORLD GAMEPLAY

IMG_2029.JPG

If you ever played games like Grand Theft Auto and Final Fantasy then you have played what are categorized as "open world" games. Meaning games that encompass the player to "free roam" and not follow a linear structure. In open world gameplay, you have the main storyline alongside a bunch of side quests/missions that are optional to complete but may give cool bonuses.

The gameplay is quite analogous to life in which, the storyline is our life's purpose and anything outside of our purpose may be positioned as a side quest. Knowing our lives are much more explorable/expansive than a video game it takes great responsibility to stay on track for our purpose. Often times we can get caught in the things that don't matter and it can delay the time on fulfilling our purpose[storyline].

Life is meant to be fun and enjoyed from many different angles but we must remind ourselves that we are working with limited time. Learning to work efficiently and staying on track is key to enjoying our lives to the fullest extent.

POWER OF REPETITION

POWER OF REPETITION

IMG_1926.PNG

In my recent days of preparing for a big task ahead [I'll reveal at a later date], I've been required to do a lot of reading, I mean A LOT! It's been done with the purpose of me to understand and comprehend the concepts that are presented before me. I realized that repetition is what really drives information to our core.

IMG_1927.PNG

It's why our parents used to have to tell us things more than once and it's even why the radio play a song more than once. A song can't be a hit from being played once but you can understand what your parents mean by being hit once, lol.

FullSizeRender.jpg

When a song on the radio is played constantly and constantly it causes a couple of things. It drives the melody into our sub-conscious and we take a liking to the song the more we hear it. Even if we don't listen to the song in our spare time we still know the words to songs we don't even like because how frequently it's played.

The true power of repetition is when what we constantly repeat becomes second nature to us. If you can get it in one try kudos to you, but there will always be something that you will have to try again and only repetition will assist you in the task you're trying so hard to complete.

TRICK SHOT

TRICK SHOT

Trick shots are unconventional, requires patience, and are mastered with a lot of practice (sprinkled with some luck).

IMG_1599.GIF

Trick shots are just like the risks we take in life. Most people stick with the fundamentals and what always work. If people know they can always make a mid range jumper they seldom attempt to hit a three from a half court.

IMG_1600.GIF

People that take risks in life are admired[sometimes shrouded as hate] by others who don't take risks. Seeing someone take a risk and succeed is amazing to see but if they fail it's generally expected because, most people don't attempt to go outside the norm anyway. It's equivalent to watching someone play pool and make a crazy shot, you write it off as nothing but luck if they succeed and aren't surprise if it fails because those are shots you're not used to seeing anyways.

IMG_1602.GIF

The main objective of this article is show that the positive result people have in taking risks isn't strictly due to luck. People who take risks are constantly pushing themselves past their normal limits and the more they do this the more the supernatural becomes the very natural.

KNOWING WHEN TO STOP

KNOWING WHEN TO STOP

IMG_1410.JPG

Sometimes it can be very easy to become addicted to winning. The thrill of achievement and overcoming can be a feeling many people don't want to let go. However everyone should proceed with caution and know not to go pass their intended mark of victory.

IMG_1415.GIF

This is an idea mainly supported by one of the 48 Laws of Power but in recent history it can be seen enacted by NBA Player Zach Lavine. Zach Lavine is a two time back-to-to NBA SLAM DUNK Champion. After giving two historic performances people thought he was bound to go for a three peat. To the shock of many he declined the invitation to participate this year in New Orleans. He told ESPN "I feel like I've accomplished everything I could in the dunk contest".

IMG_1416.GIF

To come to such a stunning conclusion one must know their self and know their true purpose. If Zach's purpose was just to accumulate another accolade for the hell of it, then there would be no reason to participate again. It is clear that his objective was to push the limits of the dunk contest and once he felt like he accomplished that he knew it wasn't a point of going any further. So the key is never to do something just to do it, always have a purpose no matter how minuscule it may seem.
